Final Report: “Development of Health Criteria for School Site Risk Assessment Pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 901(g): Child-Specific Reference Doses (chRDs) for School Site Risk Assessment: Atrazine and Deltamethrin.”
[10/04/07]

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) of the California Environmental Protection Agency announces the availability of the final Report “Development of Health Criteria for School Site Risk Assessment Pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 901(g): CHILD-SPECIFIC REFERENCE DOSES (chRDs) FOR SCHOOL SITE RISK ASSESSMENT—Atrazine and Deltamethrin.”  Health and Safety Code (HSC), Section 901(g) requires the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), in consultation with the appropriate entities within the California Environmental Protection Agency, to identify those chemical contaminants commonly found at school sites and determined by OEHHA to be of greatest concern based on child-specific physiological sensitivities.  HSC 901(g) also requires OEHHA to annually evaluate and publish, as appropriate, numerical health guidance values or chRDs for those chemical contaminants until the contaminants identified have been exhausted.
In developing these chRDs, OEHHA has followed the requirements set forth in Health and Safety Code Section 57003 for receiving public input.  The first draft document was posted on the OEHHA Website (www.oehha.ca.gov) in January 2006.  A public workshop was held in February 2006 to discuss the scientific basis and recommendations in the draft report.  After considering public comments and input from external peer review, OEHHA revised the document for additional public review in July 2007. The release of the final document is a culmination of this public input process.
