Proposition 65

November 20, 2008 Meeting Of The Science Advisory Board’s Developmental And Reproductive Toxicant (Dart) Identification Committee
[12/05/08]

Additional materials will be posted as they become available.

A meeting of the Proposition 65 Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee (DARTIC) was held on November 20, 2008, at the California Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters Building in Sacramento, California.  Below are links to the slide presentations made by staff of the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and those members of the public that chose to make presentations.  The segments of the agenda covered by this material include the “Consideration of Chemicals as Known to the State to Cause Reproductive Toxicity,” “Prioritization of Chemicals for Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee Review,” and “Update of the Section 27000 List of Chemicals Which Have Not Been Adequately Tested as Required.”

The DARTIC determined that chlorpyrifos had not been clearly shown to cause reproductive toxicity; and therefore declined to add it to the Proposition 65 chemical list.  However, the DARTIC determined that chromium (hexavalent compounds) had been clearly shown to cause reproductive toxicity (including all endpoints, developmental toxicity, male reproductive toxicity and female reproductive toxicity) and recommended that it be added to the Proposition 65 chemical list.  The DARTIC advised against the preparation of hazard identification materials for total trihalomethanes, and instead advised OEHHA to proceed with preparing separate hazard identification materials for bromodichloromethane and chloroform.  The DARTIC also advised OEHHA to prepare hazard identification materials for particulate matter.  Additionally, the DARTIC voted unanimously to accept the identified additions and deletions to the Section 27000 list as reported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.

A copy of the complete meeting transcript is available here.
