Proposition 65 - Changes to the P65 List

[06/15/01]

go to download area

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) of the California Environmental Protection Agency is adding the chemical N-methylpyrrolidone to the list of chemicals known to the State to cause reproductive toxicity for purposes of the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65). The chemical is listed effective June 15, 2001.

N-methylpyrrolidone (CAS No. 872-50-4) is listed as a chemical known to the State to cause reproductive toxicity for the developmental toxicity endpoint. The listing of N-methylpyrrolidone is based on a formal identification by an authoritative body that the chemical causes reproductive toxicity pursuant to an administrative listing mechanism provided under Proposition 65. Regulations governing the listing of chemicals under the "authoritative bodies" mechanism are published in Title 22, California Code of Regulations, Section 12306 (22 CCR 12306).

The reader is directed to the Notice of Intent to List Chemicals published in the June 25, 1999 issue of the California Regulatory Notice Register (Register 99, No. 26-Z) for the supporting documentation for the chemical N-methylpyrrolidone, which OEHHA relied upon in making its determination that the criteria for administrative listing had been satisfied.

A complete, updated chemical list is published elsewhere in this issue of the California Regulatory Notice Register.
