Final Report
Illness Indicators In Lompoc, California An Evaluation Of Available
Data
The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA)
is pleased to announce the release of the final report Illness Indicators
in Lompoc, California: An Evaluation of Available Data (June 1998).
The report was prepared at the request of the Department of Pesticide
Regulation, who asked that OEHHA "evaluate which illnesses
in the Lompoc area are occurring at a higher rate than would normally
be expected." OEHHA examined hospital discharges, birth defects
rates, and cancer incidence and found that respiratory illnesses,
in particular asthma and bronchitis, appeared to be elevated in
Lompoc with respect to comparison areas. The report does not examine
causality for any illness increases.
