The California Environmental Protection Agency's
Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is the
lead agency for the implementation of the Safe Drinking Water
and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65 or the Act).
As the lead agency, OEHHA has the explicit authority to develop
regulations that specify and implement the statutory provisions
of Proposition 65 (Health and Safety Code Section 25249.12).
These regulations may be of a general nature, or they may refer
to specific chemicals, products or circumstances that may be affected
by the provisions of the Act. OEHHA has received a petition filed
pursuant to Government Code Section
11340.6 proposing specific amendments to the warning regulations
(Title 22, California Code of Regulations, Section 12601) under
Proposition 65 concerning medical devices.
OEHHA has reviewed the petition and believes the idea of a regulatory
provision specific to medical devices warrants public discussion.
Accordingly, OEHHA will convene a workshop to solicit input from
stakeholders and the public on the need for, and suggested possible
content of, a regulation specifying warning requirements for medical
devices. The workshop will be held on Thursday, September 21,
2000 in the Lower Level Board Room at the California Air Resources
Board office, 2020 L Street, Sacramento, California [map].
The workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will end when all business
is conducted or 5:00 p.m. Parking is limited. Some metered parking
is available (quarters only); and a small non-attendant parking
lot is available between 17th and 18th Streets on the south side
of L Street (up to $4.00 per day).
An agenda will be posted prior to the workshop in the download
area below. Questions concerning the workshop may be directed
to Ms. Cynthia Oshita
or Mr. Allan Hirsch
at (916) 445-6900.
